The SMBHA is a community ball hockey league founded in 2004 by the late Saleh Hafejee (may Allah have mercy on him and elevate his ranks).  It is organized by the Scarborough Muslim Association and run by neighborhood volunteers.  The league was born out of the love for hockey in the Markham and Lawrence community with the lack of affordable hockey options.  The first season was played with a starting enrolment of 60 boys aged 10-16 in the schoolyard at Cornell Public School. In 2013 with the help of City Councillor Paul Ainslie, an asphalt caged hockey court was built at Cornell Park for the kids in the community as well as the SMBHA. We continue to use this facility along with the gym at Abu Bakr Mosque for games. In 2021, enrolment was over 150 children spread into three leagues for boys 7-11, boys 12-16, and the first ever girls league.
